The Production of Clay Beads

Making Clay Beads

In PYP2 we have been looking at how things are produced. We started with a visit to Bauducco. In the classroom we have been looking at a variety of processes. The students talked about the steps to make bread and then they made bread and also made how to books explaining the process.
Students then talked about how they would make clay beads to make into a necklace.
This is what they decided.

How to make clay beads
1. make small balls of clay
2. make a hole through each ball of clay
3. let the balls dry
4. paint the balls and let them dry again
5. put a string through the holes and put the balls on the string

After discussing the process students have started to create the beads that will be used. Here is what they have done so far.

FInd some pictures of PYP 2 Beta below. You can visit the other classes to see the result of their work:

Materials Investigation-- Fabric

HOW THE WORLD WORKS!

In PYP 2 we have been learning about production. Students have been investigating all kinds of natural resources and how they are changed to produce the items we use.
Most recently, we have been learning about how fabric is made.

We started by investigating how cotton is produced, from seed to fabric. We planted some cotton seeds to see more of the process.

To understand weaving, we used paper to show how the threads fit together to make cloth.

We then used yarn to weave our own decorations, we worked hard a created a great finished product! This process really showed how much transformation materials go through before they are the products we recognise. Our work is in the running for art of the month!

Finally, we created string "paintings" with our leftover string. This allowed for deconstructing of the string to see its component parts and even a little bit of creative recycling!
