November

November 28th. 2014

We hope you enjoy seeing our great students in action.
Way to go this month PYP 2!

Continuing our unit of inquiry on symbols, this month all PYP 2 classes were learning about hieroglyphs. They learned about the historical context and meanings of this ancient Egyptian symbol writing. Here, students are examining a model pyramid.

Following our theme of 'How We Express Ourselves', students are encouraged to express themselves and to listen to other's expression. Here, an older student visited our class to share a story while students listened intently.

Our students working on learning to express themselves through writing, through learning letter formation, writing short words, and even some sentences.

Students are learning how to express themselves through movement in PE. Our pupils are also studying symbols of the road and practising for their very own drivers' tests. After mastering the meaning of road signs and symbols they will earn their very own drivers' licences.

We are having a great month in PYP 2, and we would like to take a minute especially to thank parents for their partnership in coming to parent meetings and helping with the bazaar crafts this month. Thank you parents!

Halloween

"Halloween wraps fear in innocence,
As though it were a slightly sour sweet.
Let terror, then, be turned into a treat."

Last Friday it was Halloween. The students celebrated this special day by going to school wearing costumes and trick or treating in Mrs. Hazell's office - They got a lot of candy to take home!

LUNCH TIME

LUNCH TIME!!!

This is the PYP 2 team during lunch time. We have been encouraging pupils to eat healthy. The top choices of vegetables are lettuce, broccoli, tomatoes and corn. We also have been telling them to sit properly and to use fork and knife during meals. In the end of their lunch we always ask them to place their silverware together to symbolize they are finished. Have you noticed it at home as well?

PYP 2's favourite day is Thursday. Most of the pupils already know it will be pasta day by the time they arrive in the classroom. They LOVE IT! We have pasta with and without sauce and they can add cheese to it, if they want it. And did you know Wednesdays and Fridays we have desert? Yummy!!!

In our current Unit of Inquiry we are working on our relationships. The pupils are getting to know different people that work around the school. In Jardim Europa they realised that everyone who works in the kitchen wear white uniforms and colourful aprons. They already know Nalva, head of the dining room and Marcelo, head of the kitchen. In Pinheiros they noticed that there are also people from the cleaning staff working to help us during lunch time.

All in all, lunch here is delicious and now we know who makes it for us. Take a sneak peek at where the magic happens.
