PYP2 is exploring the idea of addition. Students started by looking at two groups of objects, putting the two groups together and then counting all the objects to find the total. Then students were introduced to the symbols + and =. Then when students are ready they will also looking at groups with numbers and then only numbers to complete addition problems to 10. Here are some of the activities that students have been doing in class to practice and idea of addition.

Book Week at St. Francis.

Happy Book Week!

Last week was book week at St. Francis. We celebrated all literature with a focus on poetry. Parent guests entertained us by reading some of our students' favourite books. We shopped for new books at the book fair as well as swapping our old books for books that were new to us. We read with our buddy class and received many compliments on our reading skills and presentation. We visited other classes to learn poetry lessons. We read and wrote our own poems, after being exposed to a variety of styles. We explored rhyming words. We met a real-life book author and asked her questions. Finally, we dressed as our favourite book characters and had a parade. We had a fun week, thank you to all the parent volunteers who contributed, and helped make this great week possible!
