Field Trip to Bauducco
PYP2's current Unit of Inquiry is under the transdisciplinary theme "How the World Works" and the central idea is "Natural resources can be transformed to be used in our daily lives".
In class we have been tunning in by talking about natural resources, wondering where they can be found and how they can be transformed. Our field trip to Bauducco was to find out more about production processes. Back in the classroom, we talked about what they saw and what they understood from the visit to the factory and it`s amazing to see the learning happening up-close.
There the students saw step-by-step how the raw ingredients were mixed and transformed into bread then toast, and into pão de mel. One of the highlights of the trip was the "chocolate shower" the pão de mel took after being baked.
Take a look at some pictures from our expedition...

Ready to go!
Learning more about the story of Bauducco.
Getting ready for the tour.
This was a mixer they used in the 50's.
This is an old oven.
The dough is going up on a conveyor belt to be rolled flat and then rolled into long stips of dough.
Here they are!
The dough is long and ready to go to the baking tins to rest and to go to the oven.
(Which, by the way, it`s the second largest toast oven)
It`s bread! And it was still warm... yum!
Can you see the toast in the back? The bread was cut and baked again and now it`s ready to be packed up. Here was the first time we saw people in the production line. The rest was all mabe by machines.
This is a sneak peek on the pão de mel, after the"chocolate shower".
That`s it. After lots of new knowledge, a well deserved snack. Yay!
